Top News Alonso Says He’s Committed To Bayer Leverkusen

Coach of Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso, remained silent on rumours that he could join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich or the Premier League, stating on Thursday that he had nothing new to share.

With Leverkusen leading the Bundesliga and eight points ahead of champion Bayern, who announced on Wednesday that they will be parting ways with head coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the campaign, the Spaniard has a deal with the team through 2026.

With an eye on their first-ever Bundesliga title and an 11-year run of Bayern dominance in the league, Leverkusen is undefeated in all competitions this season.

After Tuchel left Bayern at the end of the season, there have been rumours that Alonso, the coach of Leverkusen, could take over for him. Tuchel was a player for Bayern from 2014 to 2017.

Maybe you have questions about my future but I have nothing new to say about that. I wanted to say that in advance,” Alonso told a press conference.

Due to current coach Juergen Klopp’s impending resignation at the end of the season, the 42-year-old has also been linked to a potential move to Liverpool.

From 2004 to 2009, Alonso enjoyed another excellent stint with Liverpool.

“For me this (speculation) is not a problem,” he said. “I know that my goal is to be successful with my team.

“That is my job. We are currently in a good position and we want to keep at it.”

“It is normal to have questions but it is not an issue for me.”

Asked whether he would be coach of Leverkusen next season as well, Alonso said: “That is what I assume.”
