Mohamed Salah’s chance of playing in Sunday’s League Cup final against Chelsea is still uncertain as Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has sent him best wishes.

Following their appearances for Liverpool at Brentford over the weekend, Darwin Nunez, another forward, and Salah were not present for Wednesday’s game against Luton Town.

“Dominik (Szoboszlai), Darwin and (Salah), we really have to see. We have two more days,” Lijnders told reporters on Friday.

“Then we will check if they can be there. It would be great to be honest.”
Ljinders continued, “Several important players for Liverpool are injured heading into the championship game.”

“Curtis (Jones) has a sprain with a muscle on his high ankle and will be (out) until around the international break,” he stated.

“Due to a lateral ligament injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be sidelined until after the international break.

Diogo Jota will be recovering from a medial ligament injury during the international break, although just how long that will take is unknown.

In order to address their injury problems, the Dutchman said that Liverpool had built “new teams in one season”.

“In Holland you say every disadvantage has its advantage,” he replied.

“We have a few injuries so we get young players, players who didn’t play five in a row but they can show up and that is really cool.”

On January 31, league leaders Liverpool defeated Chelsea, who were ranked tenth, 4-1; however, Ljinders stated that Chelsea had improved since then.
