CAF Champions League CAFCL: Al Ahly To Face Simba In Quarterfinals

Al Ahly of Egypt were drawn to play Simba of Tanzania in the African Champions League quarterfinal this season.

The Egyptian giants are looking to win the continent’s top club title for a sixth time .

In other draws, Young Africans, Simba’s home opponents, were drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns, one of the pre-tournament favourites from South Africa, in a draw held in Cairo on Tuesday.

If they advance, Al Ahly will play either TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Petro Atletico of Angola in the semifinals. Al Ahly will have home advantage in the second leg.

As the only team to score zero goals in all six of their group matches, Petro broke the previous record for the African Champions League.

Quarterfinal:

Simba (Tanzania) v Al Ahly (Egypt)

TP Mazembe (DR Congo) v Petro Atletico (Angola)

Esperance (Tunisia) v ASEC Abidjan (Ivory Coast)

Young Africans (Tanzania) v Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)

Team mentioned first play at home in the first leg on March 29-30 with the return legs on April 5-6.

Semifinal:

Esperance or ASEC Abidjan v Young Africans or Mamelodi Sundowns

TP Mazembe or Petro Atletico v Simba or Al Ahly

The final will be played over two legs on May 19 and May 26.
