Premier League Ten Hag provides injury update on Martinez ahead of Brentford fixture

Erik ten Hag says there is a chance that Lisandro Martinez will be in Manchester United’s squad to face Brentford on Saturday.

The defender has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury against West Ham on 4 February, shortly after his welcome return from a foot issue that kept him out for much of the season’s opening half.

Martinez joined up with the Argentina squad over the international break to continue his rehabilitation, and now he could be ready to make his return as United’s Premier League campaign resumes this weekend.

“Yes, there is a chance [Lisandro will be in the squad],” Ten Hag told reporters, adding: “We have missed him [in] every game because he brings a composure in the team and a calmness in the team and, at the same time, a winning attitude. He can express this very clearly, he can transfer that to the team and that contributes to our levels.”

Ten Hag held his cards close to his chest when asked about team news in part one, with no clues given on the availability of recent absentees Altay Bayindir, Casemiro, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire.

Meanwhile, Amad will serve his one-match suspension, having been shown a second yellow card for removing his shirt after scoring the winner against Liverpool in their last fixture, while Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw remain out.
