Cameroon WAFCON 2022: Ajibade Fires Nigeria To Semi Final Over Cameroon

Rasheedat Ajibade’s 56th minute goal saw Nigeria booked their place in the WAFCON 2022 semi finals and FIFA 2023 Women World Cup following a 1-0 victory against Cameroon.

The dominant Super Falcons remained on course to defend the WAFCON title which they have won nine time since the inception of the tournament.

Buoyed with their back to back victory against Botswana and Burundi in the group stage, Nigeria once again defeated the Indomitable Lioness to stretch their head to head win to ten.

Both teams regarded as the power house of Africa women football went against each other at the iconic Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca.

The Super Falcons enjoyed more of the possessions in the first half as they pegged the Cameroonian to their half.

However, the Indomitable Lioness remained resolute as both aide barely threatened in the first half expected for An ambitious effort from Ayinde followed by Ucheibe strike in the 40th minute.

At the resumption of the second half, the Super Falcons kept the momentum as they kept on knocking.

Ajibade finally got the goal in the 56th minute through a cross from Blessing Onumonu which settled the rivalry.

All effort and push to take the game to extra time met the rocky defence line of the Super Falcons marshalled by veteran and oldest player of the tournament Onome Ebi.

Nigeria will now face host, Morocco in the semi final as they have also booked their spit for the FIFA 2023 World Cup.
