All sports Sochi Olympics: Olympic flame lit on Mount Elbrus!

russia-sochi-torch-relay.jpeg1-1280x960The Sochi Winter Games approach: they will take place from 7 to 23 February.

And the Olympic flame was lit this Saturday at Mount Elbrus (5,642 m), the highest peak in Europe in the Russian Caucasus, where it was delivered by two climbers, Abdul Khalim Olmezov, president of the Federation of Mountaineering of Kabardino-Balkaria (small Caucasus republic where Mount Elbrus is located), and Karina Mezova, who has climbed the summit more than 130 times.

The sun was shining but the temperature was polar!

The Olympic torch has already made stops at the North Pole, in the waters of Lake Baikal.

This relay will end on Feb. 7 at the opening ceremony of the Games in Sochi between the shores of the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains.
