In 2021, clubs will always be entitled to 5 changes. IFAB announced on Wednesday that the change in the Laws of the Game on replacements has been extended to next season.

“The IFAB board of directors has extended this possibility to competitions scheduled to end before July 31, 2021 and to international competitions scheduled for July-August 2021,” it reads.

This temporary measure was decided last May in order to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 resulting from the long halt in competitions. “Recent analysis has shown that the reasons that led to the introduction of this temporary measure apply equally to the year 2021, when players will have to deal with several difficulties,” added the FIFA press release.

In addition, each association will choose whether or not to amend this decision.
