Former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari has been named as coach of Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side, Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The club announced the appointment of the former Jomo Cosmos (South Africa), AJ Auxerre (France) and FC Grasshopper FC (Switzerland) forward on Tuesday.

“Premiership side Ngezi Platinum Stars have unveiled their new technical team,” reads the club’s tweeter handle.

“The team includes Benjani Mwaruwari as the Head coach, Bongani Mafu and Takesure Chiragwi as the assistant coaches, Tinashe Nengomasha as the team manager and John Vera as the performance analyst.”

Benjani is set to take the baby steps of his coaching career after having served in the coaching panel of the senior national team squad recently.

He had previously been doing his coaching badges in the United Kingdom where he first played for Portsmouth before securing a big money move to City in 2008.

The 43-year-old Mwaruwari went on to play for Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland before returning to South Africa for a stint with Chippa United then retiring around the year 2013.

The holder of UEFA A Licence has replaced Rodwell Dhlakama who left the team last month due to reported misunderstandings with management.
