Qatar 2022 Belgium coach says his players’ Morocco connection would make World Cup clash interesting

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has highlighted why he thinks Morocco would be a tough nut to crack at the 2022 World Cup.

The Spaniard said some of the players for Belgium have roots in Morocco; hence, the meeting against the Atlas Lions would be interesting.

Martinez said this in reaction to the World Cup draw held on Friday when the Belgians were pittied against Morocco, Canada and Croatia in Group F.

It’s a really challenging draw for different reasons, but there are fantastic teams to look forward to playing against,” he told Fifa.com.

“We obviously have a connection with Morocco in the national team and we’ve had players like Marouane (Fellaini) and Nacer (Chadli) who have roots in that country.”

The former Wigan Athletic coach also said Croatia and Canada could not be taken lightly as they are capable of causing upsets at the tournament.

Canada played a strong qualifying campaign, so that also promises to be a good match. And Croatia we know well – they didn’t become runners-up (in 2018) for nothing,” Martinez added.

Other Africans Senegal are in Group A alongside the Netherlands, Qatar and Ecuador with Tunisia in Group D with France and Denmark.

Ghana have Group H company with Portugal, Uruguay and Korea whereas Cameroon, Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil complete Group G.
