Liverpool FA Not To Investigate Klopp Comments On Man City, PSG

The statements made by Jurgen Klopp concerning Manchester City, Newcastle, and Paris St. Germain won’t be looked into by the Football Association.

The German was questioned in a press conference after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over City last week about remarks made prior to the game at Anfield that were deemed to be “borderline xenophobic.”

The three clubs may “do what they want financially,” according to Klopp.

Senior City officials privately expressed displeasure with those remarks.

“In this specific case, I don’t feel that at all,” Klopp said.

“I know myself. You cannot hit with something which is miles away from my personality.”

Anti-discrimination organizations, it is known, support the FA’s position since they think it would be challenging to demonstrate City’s claim.

They think that the fact that Klopp made no reference to race, ethnicity, nationality, or culture would bolster the German’s argument that the statements were purely related to perceptions of financial disparities and how they would effect the level of competition in football.

For his actions on the touchline during the victory over Manchester City, Klopp, who has been charged by the FA, had said:

“There are three clubs in world football who can do what they want financially. It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want.”

He added: “Newcastle [sporting director Dan Ashworth] said there’s no ceiling for the club, he’s right, there is no ceiling for Newcastle – congratulations, some other clubs have ceilings. We cannot act like them, it’s not possible.”
