Kenya FKF Cup: Kakamega Homeboyz deserve respect from AFC Leopards – Shimanyula

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has called on AFC Leopards to swallow their pride and bow down to his side after they defeated them 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Mozzart Bet FKF Cup on Saturday.

First-half goals courtesy of strikers Moses Shumah and Kevin Amwayi put Homeboyz ahead at Nyayo Stadium and despite Cliff Nyakeya threatening a comeback for Ingwe with a late consolation, the Kakamega-based side held on to secure their first-ever final in the domestic competition.

“I warned AFC Leopards fans to walk with painkillers and those suffering from pressure-related issues to consume drugs before the game and I did so because I knew they will leave Nyayo a disappointed lot,” Shimanyula told Africa Top Sports.

“I knew Homeboyz will beat AFC, there was no shortcut for them to hide this time around, they must thank God the game ended 2-1, we played well in the first half and should have been 4-0 up by the half-time break but our second half was not the best, we dropped down the tempo a bit.

“I want to ask AFC fans to respect Homeboyz because we are not in the same league as their team, we can beat them when we want, we don’t care where, what time, and even if they ask for a replay again, we will still beat them without any struggle.”

He continued: “We have our own problems but AFC is not part of the problems, it is the reason I always insist they [AFC] are our “sweet wives” in Kenya and it will take long for the dominance to change.”

Shimanyula further revealed his happiness that his players had finally settled the debate of who is the best between Homeboyz and AFC.

“It was just a matter of days for Kenyans to get the answer [of who is the best], and I am happy they now know Homeboyz is the best, way above AFC by miles, and I hope no one is questioning now because they got the answer on Saturday,” Shimanyula continued.

“Our main focus now is to prepare for the final, because we want to win this trophy. We are taking part in the competition for the first time ever and have reached the final, so what is remaining is to finish the job with victory in the final.”

Homeboyz will now come up against Tusker, who defeated Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in the other semis at the same venue, in the final.
