Rwanda Amahoro Stadium to have a new face that meets Fifa standards

Rwanda’s main football stadium, Amahoro National Stadium, is undergoing a major face-lift that started on August 31, 2022, to turn it into an ultra-modern sports ground by the end of 2024.

According to the engineers managing the project and who spoke to Times Sport, the venue will be upgraded from a 25,000-seater to a 45,000-seater covered stadium that meets Fifa standards.

The main stadium will have a 105 x 68m football pitch, a new Fifa-standard warm-up court, as well as a refurbished Paralympics Gymnasium and Petit Stade complying with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) standards.

The stadium will also have shops, restaurants, bars, and other commercial premises, which will boost its sustainability – and allow it to function even in the absence of sports activities or other events.

Previously with a capacity of 25,000, Amahoro was the largest stadium in Rwanda and it used to host football matches, concerts, and public events. The football clubs APR FC and Rayon Sports F.C. are the tenants. The venue is also sometimes used for rugby union.
