Transfers Manchester United to rival Chelsea for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana

Manchester United have entered the race to rival Chelsea for the services of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have turned to the 27-year-old as a replacement for David de Gea, who will be out of contract this summer and a new deal is yet to be signed. Man United’s ambitions for the Cameroon international have also been boosted by the fact Onana worked with Erik ten Hag during their time at Ajax, where he was a regular for the Dutch side.

The latest development comes a few days after it emerged that Chelsea have already talked to the player about a possible switch to Stamford Bridge. Onana moved to San Siro on a free transfer last year but has a contract until 2027 and Inter may demand up to £70m as a fee.

After Inter’s Champions League final defeat against Manchester City at Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Onana talked for the first time about his future claiming he was very happy at Inter Milan.

“I’m so, so happy at Inter. At this professional level, you never know what happens,” said the Indomitable Lion, adding: “I’m available for Inter, they decide and I will accept what they want. I’m happy at Inter.”

A graduate of Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Onana was snapped up by Ajax in 2015 and spent seven years at the Eredivisie side, before moving to Inter in 2022.
