Transfers Done Deal: Gyasi leaves Spezia to sign for Empoli in Serie A

Ghana international Emmanuel Gyasi has switched clubs in Italy after leaving Spezia to sign for Empoli.

The 29-year-old Black Stars, who captained Spezia in Serie B last season, will now ply his trade in the Serie A after sealing the move on Friday. A statement from the club said: “Empoli Football Club announces that it has reached an agreement with Spezia Calcio for the acquisition of forward Emmanuel Gyasi.”

A Torino youth product, Gyasi made his Serie C debut for Pisa on September 17 2014 in a game against Savona. After a number of years spent on loan to minor league teams, Gyasi signed for Spezia in 2018. With the Ligurian club, Gyasi won promotion to Serie A in 2020 and made his top-flight debut later that year.

It was the 2016 summer transfer market session when Gyasi became a player for Spezia, who sent him on loan to Pistoiese. The following season he returned to Spezia, made his Serie B debut on the first day, and scored in the victory against Brescia.

Gyasi debuted for the Black Stars in a 1-1 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification fixture against South Africa on March 25, 2021.
