Chelsea Pochettino Calls For Support After Chelsea Loss To West Ham

Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, urged supporters to “believe in the process” after his team lost 3-1 to West Ham United on the road in the Premier League on Sunday.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris St. Germain manager from Argentina has taken on a significant job at Stamford Bridge by attempting to create a new identity for a squad that cost a lot of money to assemble.

Since his arrival in the summer, Chelsea has added eight players for a total of almost 325 million pounds ($414 million) as they attempt to reinvent themselves after placing 12th last year.

One of them, Moises Caicedo, whose transfer fee from Brighton may break the British record, was handed a start off the bench, but his impact rather summed up Chelsea’s day as they stayed on only one point after their first two games.

Lucas Paqueta had the chance to secure the victory for West Ham from the spot after he recklessly tackled Emerson in the area during stoppage time, and he nailed it.

Chelsea has only won one of their previous 14 Premier League games, and they have now dropped four straight London derbies, but Pochettino is not in any danger of losing control.

“That’s football. Teams like us, we need to get the right balance.

” I think today there were a few actions we didn’t manage well and we concede,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“Overall it is this type of game that is difficult to explain.

“You had the possession, you create and maybe you were the better side but in the end you lose.”

At the London Stadium, Chelsea had 75% of the ball, had 17 attempts at goal, and 706 passes to West Ham’s 225.

They had little to show for it, though, as Enzo Fernandez, who is still the British record signing, missed a penalty to make it 2-1, aside from a very well-taken goal by Carney Chukwuemeka.

“It was the frustration when we miss the penalty.

“We were playing well and we didn’t get the reward,” Pochettino said.

“Disappointed but this is only the beginning. We need to believe in the process.

“I think we are going to be stronger and for sure be really competitive.”

Chelsea next Premier League game will be against newly promoted Luton Town at Stamford Bridge on Friday.
