Premier League Trent Alexander-Arnold to miss Liverpool vs Wolves contest

Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold but Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez are set to be available for the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Alexander-Arnold sustained a hamstring injury during the Reds’ 3-0 win over Aston Villa before the international break and was, according to Jürgen Klopp, never in contention to play at Molineux. However, Konate, who missed his side’s victories against Newcastle United and Villa due to a muscle problem, and Nunez, on his return from Uruguay duty, are likely to be involved in the lunchtime kick-off. Klopp told the media on Friday:

“[There is] no concern [over Alexander-Arnold]. He is not available, we knew that before,” adding: “He hasn’t trained with the team once yet and will take a little bit. It is not the worst hamstring injury you can have but it’s a hamstring injury and they barely heal in two weeks – and this one didn’t, either.”

He continued: “As he is running already, we hope he can start ball work early next week and then we will see and go from there. Ibou trained for two days with the team. I didn’t see him [Nunez] yet, but we obviously had contact and he said it was fine, but we will see that now and make a couple of decisions there. Darwin should be fine.”

Klopp – who will be without suspended captain Virgil van Dijk – remained unsure whether other members of his South American contingent will be ready to face Wolves following their national-team exertions.
