Chelsea Pochettino Unperturbed Over Chelsea’s Recent Setback

Chelsea’s coach, Mauricio Pochettino, expressed relief with his team’s performance against stronger opponents this season and expressed no concern over his team’s most recent setback, a 2-0 home loss to Brentford, who are neighbours in London.

After his team again failed to penetrate Brentford’s defence, Pochettino looked irritated from the sidelines. In the 58th minute, Bees defender Ethan Pinnock scored. In injury time, Bryan Mbeumo, a winger, sealed the victory with another strike.

The 1-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest last month bore similarities to their current setback against Brentford, as they both found it difficult to penetrate a resilient defence and were caught off guard for the game’s lone goal.

“If you don’t score, you need to blame yourself, and we blame ourselves because we were not nasty or clinical in front of the goal,” Pochettino said.

In the upcoming weeks, Chelsea’s theory—that they perform better against elite teams that do not rely on large defences—will be put to the test when they play defending champions Manchester City and a revitalised Newcastle United before travelling to league leaders Tottenham Hotspur on November 6.

Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, the midfield talismans, are expected to be available for Pochettino to start with.

Both players missed Saturday’s game with minor ailments.

After leading his team to their third straight league victory at Stamford Bridge, Brentford’s coach, Thomas Frank, expressed his belief that Chelsea was making progress.

“From the first half, if I were a Chelsea supporter or anyone associated with Chelsea, I would be positive about them,” the Dane said. “I know it’s about results and all that, but I am convinced it will come.”
