FIFA U17 WORLD CUP FIFA U-17: Uzbekistan Stun England To Reach Quarterfinal

Lazizbek Mirzaev, the captain of Uzbekistan, scored a magnificent free kick to give his team a thrilling FIFA U-17 World Cup victory over England.

The Asian team’s victory moves them to the quarterfinals, where they will play either Senegal or France on Saturday.

With the first goal on the fourth minute, Uzbekistan made a quick start pay off.

Tommy Setford, the number one custodian for England, did a great job blocking Mirzaev’s shot, but Amirbek Saidov was there to nod in his fourth goal of the competition as the ball ballooned up in the air.

After being shellshocked, the youthful Lions gradually found their attacking rhythm and levelled the score when Joel Ndala, who possesses incredible speed, sprinted through and clinically blasted into the bottom corner.

From then on, England took control of the game, controlling possession and mounting attacks, but Uzbekistan remained a threat whenever they got into the final third. When they took the lead again in the middle of the second half, it was not surprising as captain Mirzaev curled in a superb free kick from 20 yards out.

When Ndala’s incredible long-range attempt struck the post, the youthful Lions came dangerously close to drawing even. While England persisted in trying to find a way to draw even, Uzbekistan held strong to earn a historic triumph.
