Algeria: Hervé Renard could replace Djamel Belmadi

A day after the ouster of Djamel Belmadi at the head of the Algerian selection, a rumor is growing about his successor and the name of Hervé Renard comes up regularly.

According to French media l’Equipe, the Algerian Football Federation would have checked his name to lead the Fennecs.

But the French coach is currently coach of the French women’s team and under contract with the Blues until the Olympics (summer 2024).

Hervé Renard commented on these rumors to El-Bilad, an Algerian media outlet: “I am under contract with the French Federation until next August”.

The French coach did not close the door on this question: “I cannot comment on this question”.

Recall that Hervé Renard enjoys great popularity on the African continent. The double African champion, with Zambia (2012) and Ivory Coast (2015), is known for going far in international tournaments. In 2022, he also achieved a historic performance with Saudi Arabia by winning against Argentina, future world champion.
