Uncategorised COVID-19: Bordeaux Leave Kalu Behind After Testing Positive

Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu will not be part of Girondis Bordeaux squad ahead of their pre-season game against Dinard on Monday as he is yet to recover from Covid-19.

Kalu returned to France ahead of Bordeaux preparation for the 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season after he was trapped in Nigeria due to closure of border caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Upon his return, he tested positive to COVID-19 on July 6.

However, due to his confidentiality, the club refused to divulge the information.

He has gone on isolation and could return to training with the rest of the team by next week.

The club confirmed in a statement wished the player a quick recovery.

“Samuel Kalu has not been called up for the preparation stage in Dinard. Journalist Clément Carpentier tells us that the Nigerian player is currently in France in the fortnight.

” Samuel Kalu is doing well, and he is for the moment in Bordeaux and will resume with the group as soon as he is no longer contagious ” writes Clément Carpentier.

“The Bordeaux therefore contracted the Coronavirus. We thus know the reason for his absence and we wish him a good recovery.”

The 22-year-old scored one goal in 20 league appearances for Bordeaux last season.
