CAF Champions League Sundowns silence Al Ahly: Get revenge on Pitso Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al Ahly 1-0 in a CAF Champions League group stage match in Cairo on Saturday evening.

The South Africa’s DStv Premiership champions handed coach Pitso Mosimane his first defeat to his former employers since moving to Egypt two years ago.

Last year, Sundowns lost away then held Al Ahly in South Africans for the Egyptians to proceed in the continental competition.

On Saturday, Thapelo Morena scored in the 85th minute to put Sundowns on top of Group A with seven points from three games.

The defending champions had several scoring opportunities but Percy Tau’s goal was ruled for offside.

The former Sundowns striker Tau had come off the bench to replace Taher Mohamed Taher.

In other cases, Zambian veteran keeper Kennedy Mweene made top saves to deny the Egyptians.

The holders Al Ahly have now failed to score in two games for the group and sit on third place with one point at par with bottom-placed Al-Hilal from Sudan.

Al-Merrikh occupy second slot on four points following their 3-1 win over Sudanese rivals Al Hilal on Friday
