Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech has reacted to having scored when Chelsea beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at Riverside Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku scored for Chelsea to book a semifinal berth scheduled for Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup.

The Moroccan said he was excited to have scored on his birthday, but stressed that what was more important was clinching the semifinal berth.

“Of course, it is a good day for myself and for the team as well. We go back to Wembley and I think that is the most important thing and yeah we move on,” he told Chelsea TV in a post-match interview.

The former Ajax Amsterdam player reflected on his goal, which broke the resistance of the Championship side.

I had two options and I found the space and without thinking, I thought I would shoot and yeah it was a perfect goal,” he said.

“In these kind of games, it is important to score early and if you don’t score in the first half or in the early stages of they game, they start believing.”

The Moroccan hailed the team spirit at Chelsea, saying no matter how tough the opposition is, the Blues always combine to find a winning solution.

The winger is not part of Morocco national team after having fallen out with the coaching panel.
