Host, Egypt and Mozambique recorded the first goalless draw as the 2023 TotalEnergies AFCON U20 tournament got underway on Sunday.

The opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations was exhilarating as the Young Pharaohs were hoping to give their supporters something to cheer with.

The home team heaped on the pressure early in the game, but they were unable to get through Mozambique’s defense.

Abdelhamid’s header went wide of the goal in Egypt’s 24th-minute first serious opportunity.

Hassan, an Egyptian striker, also had a great chance to give the home team the lead but he missed the goal.

After absorbing much of the pressure, Mozambique finally had a chance in the 67th minute, but Zavala’s shot grazed the outside of the post.

Egypt will now turn their focus to Senegal for their second Group A game while Mozambique tackle Nigeria.
