athletics World Athletics Releases Qualification Standard For Nassau World Relays

The qualification standards for the competing teams, including Team Nigeria for the Nassau World Relays and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, have been made public by World Athletics.

On May 4-5, 2024, the Bahamian capital will once again welcome the world’s top sprinters as nations fight for relay spots at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Bahamian capital hosted the first three World Relays competitions.

The Nassau program consists of five relay events—men’s and women’s 4×100 and 4×400 meters, as well as the mixed 4×400 meters—and 32 teams will compete in each of them.

“Top eight teams in each discipline at the World Athletics Championships Budapest 23 will automatically earn entry to the World Relays Nassau 24. 

Regardless of any entrance requirements, the host nation is also allowed to enter one team in each discipline.

The top lists during the qualification period, from Monday, January 1, 2023 to Sunday, April 7, 2024, will select the remaining teams, up to 32.

World Athletics will start keeping a weekly list of the qualified relay teams on October 1, 2023.

The top 14 teams at the World Athletics Relays Nassau 24 will be given automatic berths at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Teams will have two chances to qualify in Nassau; if they don’t succeed on day one, they’ll have another opportunity on day two.

According to the official announcement, “The remaining two spots in each relay discipline will be determined based on top lists throughout the qualification period (31 December 2022 – 30 June 2024)”.
