AFCON Afcon 2023: Morocco is the team to beat in Africa by ‘everyone’ – Regragui

Morocco coach Walid Regragui believes they have become a target of every team in Africa following their recent run of good results.

Ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa at FNB Stadium on Saturday, the 47-year-old insists being ranked the best team in Africa currently has given them a lot of pressure and attention.

“Everyone wants to beat Morocco now. The team has done well over the last few years and what I have also learned is that every team wants to beat us, which makes it more difficult for us to win. This also helps us to improve so we welcome it,” said Regragui as quoted by CafOnline.

On facing South Africa with both teams already qualified, the former Wydad AC coach said he expects an open game with both sides attacking one another.

“Both teams have qualified so there is not much pressure to win. They have a lot of good players from Sundowns who play good offensive football, but this means we also need to play and show that we are a big team in Africa,” he added.

Morocco edged out Bafana Bafana 2-1 in Rabat in the first leg and the return leg will kick off at 15:00 GMT.
