Chelsea Chelsea Under Investigation For Financial Breaches Under Abramovich

The Premier League is looking into possible financial rule violations at Chelsea while Roman Abramovich owned the team.

Following their takeover of Chelsea last summer, the new owners informed UEFA and the Premier League of their own club.

The Premier League has not yet brought any charges against Chelsea.

They may receive a fine or lose points if they were found to have broken the rules.

Chelsea was penalised €10 million (£8.6 million) by UEFA on July 28 for “submitting incomplete financial information” between 2012 and 2019.

As of the time of this publication, Chelsea has not yet commented on the matter.

With the team only winning one First Division championship in 1955, the 1971 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and three FA Cups between 1970 and 2000, Abramovich purchased Chelsea in 2003 for $140 million.

However, the investment made by the Russian billionaire led to five Premier League championships, five FA Cups, three League Cups, two Champions Leagues, two Europa Leagues, two Community Shields, and one UEFA Super Cup.

The Club World Cup, which Chelsea won in February 2022—just one month before Abramovich sold the team—was the final prize the club earned during his reign.

Todd Boehly took over the organisation in the summer of 2022, and in his first campaign, Chelsea finished 12th in the league.
