Kenya FKF boss Mbegera calls on politicians to emulate Jhanda in Kisii County

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman for Kisii County Jezreel Mbegera has challenged other leaders from the Gusii region to emulate Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda after he sponsored a successful off-season tournament in the County.

The tournament dubbed Super Cup saw Keumbu FC emerge winners after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Kisii Central FC, to lift the trophy and a cash reward of Ksh2 million while the runners-up, Kisii Central pocketed Ksh 1 million.

In the third-place playoff, Ibeno FC secured a 1-0 win against Kiogoro, to take home a cash reward of Ksh 500,000. The tournament’s final drew notable figures, including Kisii County Governor Simba Arati, Majority Whip of the National Assembly Hon. Sylvanus Osoro, and Charles Matoke, among other dignitaries.

Speaking on the success of the tournament, Mbegera said: “We want to encourage our Leaders in both Parliament and the County Assemblies to step ahead and promote football in their small and big manner,” adding: “In that regard, we urge them (leaders) to follow suit and sponsor similar tournaments as these will go a long way to keep the teams busy and also give them financial muscle that can sustain them throughout the season.”

Several tournaments are currently going on in the region with the semi-final of the NG-CDF Kitutu Chache South scheduled at Nyaore Polytechnic grounds, starting at 8 am for girls and 11 am for boys. Simultaneously, the NG-CDF Kitutu Chache North Soccer tournament quarter-finals are set to kick off at Marani and Etanda grounds from 11 am onwards.
