Kenya Patron Nyamweya calls for Shabana to name coach, move matches from Homabay

Shabana FC Patron Sam Nyamweya has called on the club’s management to move with speed and appoint a new coach to help turn around the fortunes of the club in the FKF Premier League.

In the same breath, Nyamweya has further called on the club to move their home matches to Narok or Ulinzi Complex Stadium. With Gusii Stadium still undergoing renovation, Shabana have been using Homabay Stadium as their home ground.

The Kisii-based Glamour Boys are without a head coach for the last two months after Sammy Okoth, who helped them gain promotion to the top flight after 17 years in the cold, was fired owing to a string of poor results. The club management then moved to appoint his deputy Oscar Kambona in an interim capacity as they searched for a permanent coach.

So far Shabana have engaged former Tusker and Kenya Police coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo to take charge but the latter turned down the offer on the table. Africa Top Sports understands he was being given Ksh40,000 a month which he turned down.

With the team still struggling under Kambona, Nyamweya, who recently named and shamed out some people masquerading as club officials for bringing down Tore Bobe, has now outlined seven key areas that must be addressed by the office to save the team from being relegated to the lower division.

In a letter sent to chairman Jared Ombongi and signed by Nyamweya, dated December 13, and headlined “Advisory on the recent performance of Shabana“, Nyamweya said: “The above subject matter refers. Shabana is our Omogusii community team which is now in the FKF Premier League. The team has a rich history and has been a prominent figure in Kenyan football for many years.

“However, its performance in the FKF Premier League in recent days has varied over time due to various factors such as financial constraints, player recruitment, and management issues. Given the above as patron of the club, I would like to ask you Mr. Chairman to consider the following:-

  1. Overhaul of the technical bench starting with the immediate appointment and inauguration of
    the coach.
  2. Immediate recruitment exercise of new players for the season.
  3. Management to allow the technical bench to be given priority in the recruitment of the players.
Management should never interfere. Only the panel of recruitment should be allowed to lead
    the recruitment exercise.
  4. Consider moving the home matches to either Ulinzi Sports Complex or Narok. I will Personally
    engage the authorities for support.
  5. I seek complete accountability for the money collected so far especially the Shabana vs Gor
    Mahia match.
  6. The chairman and I to move quickly and actualize the funds drive for the club.
  7. Shabana bonafide officials especially the chairman should be leading in the issuance of official
policy statements. I ask fans to be calm as we seek to jointly support the team.
