The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has announced that the country’s senior national team, the Scorpions, will camp in Turkey from May 31 to June 15 2021.

GFA says the Scorpions will embark on the camp training to fine-tune for the forthcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Tom Saintfiet’s Scorpions will play 3 test matches in its Turkey training camp, Niger (112 on the Fifa World Rankings) on June 5; against Togo (ranked 133) on 8th June and versus Kosovo on June 11th (ranked 120),” GFA tweeted.

According to reliable sources the team will attend a camp in Istanbul where it will play friendly matches. The Gambia’s opponents in this camp are expected to be fellow minnows and first time qualifiers Comoros Islands, Seychelles, Serbia and Kosovo.

The team is expected to gather in Istanbul from June 1.

Gambia secured their first-ever qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations finals after beating Angola 1-0 in the decider.

Belgian Tom Saintfiet is the coach for the Scorpions having earlier in his career managed teams such as Namibia and Malawi.
