Transfer window Weah Son Follows His Foot Step To Serie A, Signs For Juve

Son of former Liberia president and football legend, George Weah, Timothy Weah has joined Juventus from Ligue 1 side Lille for an initial fee of 10.3 million euros ($11.2 million), the Serie A club said on Saturday.

In an effort to replace the long-tenured Colombian Juan Cuadrado, who left at the end of his contract, Juve claimed the sum can climb by a total of 3.1 million euros in bonuses dependent on sporting goals achieved.

Weah played for Lille for four seasons after beginning his professional career with Paris St. Germain. He made more than 100 matches there and won league championships with both teams.

While on loan at the Scottish club in the 2018–19 campaign, he also helped Celtic win the league and cup twice.

At Lille he won the French championship in the 2020-21 season and the French Super Cup the following year,” Juventus said in a statement.

“Six consecutive years brimming with victories have transformed Timothy into a versatile player, capable of covering both defensively and in attack, making him an all-round wing-back.”

The 23-year-old, who has made 29 appearances for the Americans and scored four goals in those games, will follow in the footsteps of his father George, a former Ballon d’Or winner who scored 58 goals for AC Milan and is currently the president of Liberia, as the second Weah to play in Italy.

Marcus Thuram, a French forward who is the son of legendary Parma and Juventus forward Lilian Thuram, joined Inter Milan on the same day he signed for Juve.
