Spain Greenwood Plays Again With Getafe After 8 Months Of Inaction

For the first time since playing for Manchester United in January 2022, Mason Greenwood made his LaLiga debut for Getafe on Sunday as a substitute against Osasuna.

The English forward was accused with attempted rape and assault in October 2022 while on loan from a Premier League team to Getafe, but the allegations were eventually withdrawn.

A “realistic prospect of conviction” had been eliminated, according to the Crown Prosecution Service in England, because key witnesses had left the case and new information had surfaced.

During the 77th minute, with the score tied at 2-2, Getafe coach Jose Bordalas substituted Greenwood for Juanmi Latasa, to the cheers of the home crowd at the club’s Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.

On September 1, the 21-year-old was taken on loan by the Madrid team, and Bordalas promised to assist him in “recovering his best level” and reviving his career.

Greenwood, who made his Manchester United debut at the age of 17, is under contract at Old Trafford through 2025. He has played 129 times for the club.

After a six-month internal inquiry into Greenwood, the English side came to the conclusion that he should pursue other career opportunities.
